Basic Function: This position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, and margin analysis.
The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
The responsibilities of this position include the following: Update bill of material standard costsPrepare departmental expense analysis.
Report on profitability by customers, projects, and departmentsReport on margins by product and divisionAccumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principlesAssist in validation of internal controls via cycle count audits, annual physical inventory, validating internal procedures and policies that are being followed and monitor all audit reportsFixed Asset Maintenance – depreciation and capitalization, transfer, roll-forward and CAPEX trackingReview monthly variances, investigate causes, train supervisor/employees to avoid recurrences, communicate resolution with supervisorWork with production on reviewing accuracy of bills of material and routings and follow-up to ensure changes are madePerform operational audits by routinely following all products through the plant and compare to existing routings and bills of materialsEstablish, maintain and analyze standard costs for inventory.
Assist with month end close and preparation of month end reporting Establish inventory valuation and calculate inventory reserves.
Assist manufacturing operations in determining excess and obsolete inventory reserves Prepare manufacturing and cost of goods sold analysis.
Assist in the development and preparation of annual business plan.
Ability to analyze manufacturing variances, problem solving capability, and excellent communication skillsAnalyzing and solving problems with regards to financial reporting, variance analysis, budgets, forecasts and cost accounting issues.
Requirements: · At least a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance · CPA is not required but highly desirable · 5+ years of experience with cost accounting and financial analysis · 3+ years experience in a Manufacturing environment · In-depth knowledge of standard accounting practices · Able to operate well independently and as part of a team · Good analytical and organizational skills · Excellent communication skills; written and verbal · Strong Excel skills are necessary including pivot tables, macros and formulas.
